A Roadmap for the Future

A Summer’s End has been a long and amazing journey for us. We started working on this visual project since September of 2018. The story, the characters, the art, and the game direction has evolved and changed many times over during the development process. Since this project’s inception, we wanted to create a narrative game that would have a focus on lesbian romance. As we continued working on the story and game, the scope and scale of the project grew larger as we researched further into the setting of Hong Kong and Asia at the time. We felt inspired by the themes prevalent in new wave Hong Kong and Taiwanese 1980s cinema in particular. After learning more about these films and their cultural and political contexts, we wanted to create our own story that explored similar themes of cultural, intergenerational, and political conflict. Such conflicts exist now as much as they did in the 1980s. We felt that lesbianism and the cultural and political climate of the 1980s served as a perfect allegory for the themes and ideas we wanted to present in A Summer’s End. We wanted our story to portray a LGBTQ experience as authentically as we could to the setting and time, and most importantly, for the story to be one that is positive and hopeful. Part memoir, part fiction, this game means so much to us personally. We hope what we’ve created would be an enjoyable experience for everyone and that it could be something that emotionally resonates with a lot of of our readers. 

Although our game is just about ready for its initial release, we hope we can continue expanding on the project. We want to bring A Summer’s End to other languages and platforms, and we would like to integrate Cantonese voice acting if possible in future updates too. Please continue to look forward to our future updates. We have in mind other game projects for our studio also. 

We appreciate all the feedback we have received since the beginning we announced our project. We’ve been reading every comment, and we can’t express how encouraging all of it is. We cannot come this far without everyone’s dedicated support. We are so touched by the earnest show of support from all our viewers. We also want to thank the people who came before us, who inspired us and gave us the courage to create our own story. We’ve given the best that we could to this project. Our game’s release is just around the corner and we’re so excited to share the game with everyone.
