A Message from Oracle and Bone

We have been working on a new game and story for the past 3 years. As some may already know, we are a small independent studio of two. We support our living not only by making games, but also through our individual careers outside the studio. It has been a challenge for us these past years balancing these acts as we want to increase the scope of our next project in order to expand the world of our characters. Progress has been steady and we will dedicate all that we have on our project.

We don’t want to ask for crowd funding or publisher funding to continue production of our upcoming project, rather all we ask is your patience and support for our current and next game. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s support and encouragement. We couldn’t have come this far without all of you. Thank you everyone for all your supportive words. We take every comment and letter to heart.

We’re excited to share more about our new project over the upcoming months. First, we’ll begin with a synopsis and brief introduction to the setting.

IN THE OCEAN I LEARNED TO FLOAT

A borrowed place on borrowed time
A city untethered floats

What was left behind in the ocean will reveal
The way we were all those years ago

SYNOPSIS

Kay’s return to Hong Kong was supposed to be her homecoming, but upon visiting her childhood home she makes a shocking discovery. Her best friend, Grace, is missing. In her pursuit for truth, Kay meets a disco dancer and business woman. By piecing together their stories and their fragmented memories, she begins to uncover the terrifying secret behind Grace’s disappearance.

Weaving personal history with the historical past, In the Ocean I Learned to float is a romance story about resilience and hope in the face of uncertainty.

FROM A SUMMER’S END TO THE OCEAN

Set in the winter of 1988, the new story takes place two years after the events of A Summer’s End. In the Ocean will feature new locations and new characters. Familiar faces will appear in the new game as well.

How In the Ocean differs from A Summer’s End is that the new story will explore more mature themes and topics. The colonial history of Hong Kong and the intersectionality of race, class, gender, and sexuality is an integral theme to understanding the new cast’s motivations and worldview.

The game and story will be longer than A Summer’s End. The gameplay will feature elements of investigation and exploration. The player will have the opportunity to visit locations not previously shown in A Summer’s End and interact with characters and objects in the scene. The relationship between place and memory is an important part of In the Ocean.

We hope you look forward to the story and game experience that we’re doing our best to create in our upcoming project. We will be sharing more details about In the Ocean on our blog page. Please look forward to them. We can’t wait to introduce our characters and their world to you. We hope you will follow along with us in our journey.
